As we continue to grow globally, we are seeking a proactive and capable HR Manager to join our team in Kuala Lumpur to drive our people strategy, manage the full employee lifecycle, and help shape a high-performance culture.

As HR Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational HR functions for the Malaysia team, with broader collaboration across our global offices. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on execution, covering areas such as recruitment, talent development, organisational design, performance management, culture-building, and HR operations.

What you’ll be spending your time on: 

1. HR Strategy & Organisational Development

  • Develop and implement a scalable HR strategy aligned with SUNRATE’s business goals and international growth plans.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on people-related matters.

2. Talent Management & Acquisition

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for critical roles, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Establish a full employee lifecycle framework: hiring, onboarding, development, retention, and exit processes.

3. Performance Management & Career Development

  • Design and roll out structured performance review systems and career path frameworks across departments and regions.
  • Drive employee engagement, career mobility, and skills development initiatives.

4. Culture & Employer Branding

  • Champion a collaborative and inclusive work culture; lead internal communications and branding initiatives.
  • Create and implement programs that reinforce SUNRATE’s global culture and values.

5. HR Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure HR policies, processes, and SOPs are clear, consistent, and compliant with Malaysian labour laws and aligned with global standards.
  • Manage employee relations, disciplinary matters, and day-to-day HR administration.

6. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Admin, Legal, and Finance teams on employee onboarding, offboarding, payroll support, and benefits administration.
  • Support regional and global HR initiatives as part of SUNRATE’s international HR team.

For this role you also have:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian labor law and international HR best practices.
  • Proven track record of building HR functions in high-growth or start-up environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the business.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing cross-border teams or working in regional roles across Southeast Asia is a strong advantage.
  • High integrity, ownership mindset, and a collaborative working style.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of other regional languages is a plus.
