Motherhood is a journey of love, resilience, and relentless dedication. It’s a role that demands balance—between deadlines and dinner plans, Zoom calls and school runs. At SUNRATE, we deeply admire and celebrate the incredible women who master this balancing act every day with heart, strength, and grace.

This Mother’s Day, we shine a spotlight on three remarkable women from the SUNRATE family—Weini (Business Development Director), Junyu (Compliance Specialist), and Qiao Lu (Compliance Operations Manager)—who wear many hats as professionals, partners, and parents. They share honest reflections on navigating work and family, personal lessons learned, and the joys and challenges of raising children while building meaningful careers.

Weini, SUNRATE’s Business Development Director (Singapore office) who has a passion for wellness, is also a proud mum to a 7-year-old son.

"Work is more than a career; it’s part of my identity, giving me purpose, independence, and growth as both a professional and a mother. At SUNRATE, I'm able to thrive both at work and at home, thanks to the supportive culture, great colleagues, and empowering leadership."

What’s the best part about being a working mum?
For me, it’s about achieving financial independence while being present for my son’s growth—something I learned the importance of from my mother’s experience as a stay-at-home parent. Today, I'm grateful to contribute professionally while still being present for my child's milestones.

Do you have a strategy for balancing work and life as a working mum?
Discipline and boundaries. When I'm with my son (after 7 PM), I'm fully present over dinner time — no emails, no calls. Once he's asleep, I either wrap up work or recharge. I've learned that it's never about "having it all" at once but intentionally allocating focus where it matters most.

What were some of your greatest challenges—and how did you overcome them?
When my son faced behavioural and learning challenges at 2.5 years old, it was one of the toughest times of my life. Balancing his weekly therapy, a demanding job during COVID, and parenting differences at home pushed me to my limits. The turning point came when I enrolled in a year-long neuroscience-based parenting programme and sought professional support.

How do you recharge after a long day?
Mindfulness is my anchor. I prioritise mental clarity through practices like meditation and journaling, and protect my energy by surrounding myself with positivity. Self-respect is the foundation that allows me to show up fully, both at work and at home.

Junyu, Compliance Specialist at SUNRATE (Singapore office), resumed her full-time career after spending several years focused on raising her son, who is now in his teens.

"Motherhood has completely reshaped how I view work. It’s no longer just about bringing home a paycheck—it’s about personal growth and leading by example."

Is there a mindset or habit that helps you stay on top of both work and parenting?
Definitely—being flexible and going with the flow has helped me a lot. To me, life is quite unpredictable at times, so staying adaptable allows me to manage both work and home more smoothly. It also complements my husband’s “more structured” parenting style, so we balance each other out well.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned as a working mum?
Be present. It’s not always about doing everything, but about being with your child when it matters most. Taking time off to guide him through school and life is something I’ll never regret.

Has motherhood changed your perspective on work?
Absolutely. The social skills I’ve developed at work, like communicating with different people, adapting to new environments, and managing pressure, have helped me become more patient, empathetic, and resilient and has influenced the way I parent to a certain extent.

What’s your proudest “mument” as a working mum?
When my son scored 250 on his PSLE—it was totally unexpected! I was still giving tuition part-time then, and it really felt like all the effortpaid off. I was so proud of him to be able to achieve this milestone, all while jugglinghis tennis practice sessions. I’ve always encouraged him to try different sports—it’s important to me that he explores other aspects besides just studies and enjoys being active.

Qiao Lu, Compliance Operations Manager at SUNRATE (Singapore office), and her 2 children.

"I’ve learned to remind myself that not everything will go according to plan—and that’s okay. My kids aren’t expecting a perfect mum; they just need a present and a loving one."

How do you stay productive at work while managing family responsibilities?
Balancing work and family life is a constant juggling act, especially with two kids—my son is 10 and my daughter is 8. I’ve found that a good support system and effective task planning are key. Each morning, I prioritise what needs to be done and keep a “To-do list” to stay focused. That simple routine helps me manage both my workload and my family responsibilities more smoothly.

Do you ever feel like you're falling short—either as a mum or as a team member at work? How do you handle those “muments”?

Yes, at times. But I understand that my kids aren’t expecting a perfect mum. Accepting that has helped me let go of unnecessary pressure and focus on what really matters.

Do you have a reliable support system, and how does it help you balance work and family?

Yes, and it’s made a huge difference. I always remind myself that asking for help is not a sign of weakness—it’s a strength. Whether it’s help from my spouse, extended family, or friends, that support gives me the space to be both present at work and at home with my two kids.

How has SUNRATE supported you as a working mother?
The company has supported me in ways that have truly made a difference in my journey as a working mother. The company’s flexible work culture has allowed me to manage both my career and my role as a mother of two without feeling overwhelmed. It makes a big difference when your workplace understands the value of work-life balance.

Join us in celebrating Weini, Qiao Lu and Junyu, as well as all the incredible mothers who continue to inspire us with their dedication and strength. Happy Mother’s Day!
