The Compliance Officer - Risk & Compliance is a hands-on second-line compliance role responsible for supporting the development, maintenance and effective operation of Sunrate’s compliance programme, policies and procedures across Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region.
Working under the oversight of the Head of Compliance and alongside the Senior Compliance Officer, SEA, the role supports regulatory monitoring and reporting, policy maintenance, compliance monitoring and the day-to-day advisory activities of the second-line compliance function.
The Compliance Officer is expected to bring sound compliance knowledge, strong organisational skills and a practical, collaborative approach. The role works closely with the Compliance Manager, Regulatory & Policy, the Regulatory Reporting and Data Analysis Team, Compliance Operations, and other regional and global compliance colleagues.
What you’ll be spending your time on
- Support the development, maintenance and periodic review of Sunrate’s compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they remain current and accurately reflect applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain the policy and procedures register, including document ownership, version history, approval status and scheduled review dates.
- Support the ongoing development and maintenance of Sunrate’s compliance programme, including the frameworks, processes and controls that underpin the second-line compliance function.
- Monitor regulatory developments in Singapore and across Southeast Asia, including relevant legislation, regulatory guidelines, notices, circulars and other requirements.
- Assess and summarise the potential impact of regulatory developments and escalate relevant changes to the Senior Compliance Officer, SEA and Head of Compliance.
- Support the interpretation of regulatory requirements and the development of practical actions to address new or changing obligations.
- Contribute to the maintenance and periodic review of Sunrate’s AML/CFT risk assessments and related compliance frameworks.
- Support independent compliance monitoring, controls assessments and thematic reviews.
- Document monitoring and review outcomes, identify potential control weaknesses and support the tracking of remedial actions to closure.
- Support the preparation, review and coordination of regulatory reports, returns, notifications and other submissions across Singapore and relevant Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
- Work with the Regulatory Reporting and Data Analysis Team and other stakeholders to obtain, validate and organise the information and supporting records required for regulatory reporting.
- Translate regulatory reporting obligations into clear data, content and submission requirements for relevant stakeholders.
- Review regulatory reporting information for completeness, consistency and reasonableness and help investigate and resolve identified discrepancies.
- Support the maintenance of regulatory reporting calendars and ensure responsibilities, dependencies, deadlines and submission records are properly tracked.
- Assist with regulatory examinations, supervisory requests and information requirements by coordinating documentation, responses and follow-up actions.
- Contribute to compliance reporting and management information, drawing on information provided by Compliance Operations, the Regulatory Reporting and Data Analysis Team, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide practical guidance on the application of compliance policies and regulatory requirements across relevant business activities.
- Support the development and delivery of training on regulatory requirements, compliance policies and expected standards.
- Maintain accurate, complete and well-organised compliance records, documentation and reference materials.
- Coordinate compliance support for internal and external audits, including documentation, responses and the tracking of findings and follow-up actions.
- Support cross-regional compliance initiatives and the consistent application of compliance frameworks and processes across Southeast Asia.
- Work collaboratively with the Compliance Manager, Regulatory & Policy, the Regulatory Reporting and Data Analysis Team, Compliance Operations, and other regional and global compliance colleagues.
- Support new or changing compliance responsibilities as Sunrate’s operations and regulatory obligations across the region continue to develop.
For this role you’ll also have
- At least three years’ experience in a compliance, regulatory or risk function within financial services, fintech, payments or another regulated environment.
- Sound working knowledge of AML/CFT frameworks and their practical application within financial services or payments.
- Experience supporting compliance policy development, regulatory reporting or compliance programme maintenance.
- Familiarity with Monetary Authority of Singapore requirements and the Singapore regulatory environment.
- The ability to review and interpret regulatory requirements and clearly summarise their practical impact.
- Experience working with regulatory reporting information, compliance records or supporting data.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams, deadlines and documentation requirements.
- Good analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear policies, regulatory summaries, reports and compliance records.
- Sound judgement and the ability to identify matters requiring escalation.
- A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across different teams and jurisdictions.
- Clear and professional written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working across multiple Southeast Asian jurisdictions or familiarity with regulatory frameworks outside Singapore.
- Experience within fintech, digital payments, cross-border financial services or a licensed financial institution.
- Exposure to compliance monitoring, controls testing, thematic reviews or audit support.
- Experience preparing or supporting regulatory reports, returns or formal submissions.
ACAMS, ICA or another relevant compliance, governance or financial crime qualification. - Experience working within a fast-growing or scaling compliance function.
- Experience working with regional or global compliance teams.
